ABRAHAM BAGGETT DESCENDANTS

This section will have to be studied very carefully to determine the line of decent. The lineage in America has been proved back to Nicholas Baggett II. The descent down from Nicholas II is marked with a number left of the colon. The number left of the colon shows the generation from Nicholas Baggett II, who is number 1, down to the present  time. The number right of the colon designates the position of that child in that particular family, beginning with the eldest as number 1. If you find your ancestor anywhere in the genealogy section, trace it upwards to the nearest lowest number. If you recognize your ancestor, and he is beside 4:3 it means that he is the fourth generation from Nicholas Baggett II (who is 1:3), and the third child in that particular family. Remember, if he is 4:3, as the example, go back to the first 3 left of the colon above it. That will be his or her parents.

2:2 Abraham Baggett I (believed to be the second son of Nicholas II, who made his will in 1753), born ca. 1715 (probably in London), died ca. 1767-8 in Edgecombe County, NC; apparently his wife's name was Sarah. (See more on Abraham, Sr. (I) in History, Chapter II & History, Chapter III.) His children:
3:1 Shadrack Baggett, born ca. 1723 in Northampton County, NC, lived in Bladen, Northampton, and Edgecombe counties.
3:2 Abraham Baggett II (Abram), born ca. 1725 in Northampton County, died ca. 1800 in South Carolina (named in many deeds; wife was apparently named in one deed as Mary). Their children:
4:1 Nathan Bagget (son of Abraham II), born ca. 1743 in Northampton County, lived in Wayne County in the 1780s. His son:
5:1 Nathan Bagget, Jr., born ca. 1761 in Northampton County, made his will there in 1816, died 1816, married Pherebe                     ?, born ca. 1763. Their children noted in will:
6:1 Jonathan, born ca. 1780; 6:2 John, born ca. 1782; 6:3 David, born ca. 1784; 6:4 Mildred B.Baggett, born ca. 1787; 6:5 Martha (Baum) Baggett, born ca. 1789; 6:6 Pherebe, born ca. 1792 (conjectural).
4:2 Abraham Baggett III, born ca. 1753 in Northampton County, NC, lived in South Carolina 1797-1805, died ca. 1835 in Conecuh County, AL. (Apparently Abraham III was married twice, based on the varying ages of his children; the names of his wives are unknown.) (See more about Abraham Baggett III in History, Chapter III.) Children (some are conjectural):
5:1 Elias Baggett, born 1772 in North Carolina, died 19 December 1847 in Georgia. He married Susannah Reeves, born ca. 1778, died 2 August 1854. (She was a daughter of John Reeves; he mentions her in his will in Columbia County, GA in 1833.) (It is apparent that the family of Elias Baggett moved to Monroe County, GA in ca. 1835. They appear there on the 1840 census, and four of the children's marriages are recorded there.) Elias and Susannah's children:
6:1 Four daughters born before 1800; 6:5 Tennel Baggett, born 1806; 6:6 Leona Rebecca; 6:7 Winnie Baggett; 6:8 Bennett Baggett, born 22 September 1816.
5:2 Silas Baggett, born ca. 1780. His son:
6:1 Silas Baggett, Jr., born ca. 1800.
5:3 Elizabeth, born ca. 1798, died ca 1841.
5:4 Nicholas Granberry Baggett, Sr., born ca. 1799, married (first) unknown; married (second) Elizabeth (Betsy) Emmons, born ca. 1820. Had 14 children; thirteen which are listed here. The name of the first child is unknown, but it may have been by his first wife: More information is recorded here.
  6:2 William C., born 22 February 1843, died 16 December 1920; 6:3 George, born ca. 1844; 6:6 Edward, born ca. 1853; 6:7 Robert A., born ca, 1855; 6:8 Betsey, born 11 June 1856, died 5 July 1929, married Henry Wilson; 6:9 Alonzo, born ca. 1858; 6:10 Kedar Thomas, born ca. 1862. (continued):
6:11 Solomon, born 28 April 1865, died 24 June 1931; 6:12 Jesse; 6:13 Abraham. 6:14 Nicholas Granberry, Jr.; (their children continued):
6:5 Rev. Ned Granberry Baggett, born 9 October 1849, died 10 October 1945, married June 1878 Emma Lucretia McCormick in Appleton (Escambia County), AL.
5:5 Nancy Baggett, born ca. 1804 in South Carolina, died 1882, married in 1821 Duncan Rankin II. They had 13 children (History of Escambia County, Alabama, by Annie C. Waters presents the Rankin family and names the children.) Duncan II was the son of Duncan Rankin I, who was born in Glasgow, Scotland in ca. 1767. He married a woman named Janet, also from Glasgow. They came to America in ca. 1797 and settled in South Carolina.
5:6 Abraham S. Baggett IV, born ca. 1809.
4:3 Averett, appears to be a son of Abraham II, lived in Wayne County, NC in the 1780s, married Elizabeth Jordan in ca. 1785 in Wayne County (conjectural).
3:3 Elisha Baggett (son of Abraham I), born in Northampton County ca. 1726, lived in Edgecombe, Anson, and Bladen counties.
3:4 Jesse Baggett, born in Northampton County in ca. 1728, lived in Edgecombe. Jesse was Corporal in Wm. Lee Davidson's Company, 10th North Carolina Regiment. He moved in 1768 to Bladen County, received a Land Grant there, witnessed a Bond for Title in 1889 (if the same Jesse) in Marlborough County, SC, conveyed 50 acres on Three Creeks southeast of the Beauty Spot, and in 1805 both he and his nephew Elias drew blanks in the 1805 Columbia County Land Lottery. In 1820 Jesse and his wife are shown in the census of Columbia County, GA being 45 and up. Apparently he died ca. 1825 in Columbia County, GA. Their children (considered conjectural):
4:1 Two sons (names unknown); 4:3 Miriam, married 4 July 1801 in Richmond County, GA Jesse Sea; 4:4 Nancy, married in Richmond County 11 December 1804 Thomas Morris.
3:5 James Baggett  appears to be the son of Abraham Baggett I (based on plausible proof, but conjectural). He lived his entire lifetime alongside Abraham II and his brothers in Edgecombe, Bladen, and Anson counties in North Carolina. He was born ca. 1730 in Northampton County, NC, married Elizabeth                     ?. Their children: Information on James Baggett can be found here.
4:5 James Baggett II (grandson of Abraham I, based on plausile proof), born 1757 in Edgecombe County, died ca. 1833 in Tennessee. This James served in the American Revolution; he married [first]                     ?, married [second] Nancy                     ?, enlisted as a private in the North Carolina Militia. (See James Baggett II in History, Chapter VI.) More information on James Baggett II here.
