SHERIFF WILLIAM BAGOT COAT OF ARMS

The Coat of Arms shown below of Sheriff William Bagot is so old we don't know if the motto was “Deo Non Fortuna” or “Antiquum Obtinens.”  Some of the older Bagots bore the motto, “Deo Non Fortuna.” The Motto, Deo Non Fortuna, is by translation: “Given of God, not the goddess of fortune.” William was Sheriff of Warwick and Leicester. This gentleman lived in the time of King Henry III (1216-1272). His father was the Honorable Robert Bagot. His grandfather, Morton Bagot, lived in the time of King Henry I (1100-1135).
