DUKES OF BUCKINGHAM ARMS

Edmund Stafford (a descendant of Hervey Bagot) became a part of the royal family when he became engaged and married Anne, daughter of Thomas (of Woodstock), son of Plantagenet King Edward III. Humphrey Stafford (son of Edmund and Anne) inherited the title of Buckingham at his mother's death and became the first Duke of Buckingham. Their descendant, Henry Stafford, was made a royal ward of King Edward IV, and for several years he lived in the queen's household. His father and grandfather had been killed during the War of the Roses. Henry Stafford was the second Duke of Buckingham.
