CEMETERY IN CONECUH COUNTY, ALABAMA

Shown below are the tombstones of Zilla Godwin and Granberry Baggett, son of Nicholas Baggett, son of Barnaby Baggett, and brother of Jesse Baggett who married Zilla Godwin. Zilla Godwin's tomb is on the right of Granberry's tomb. Not shown here is Jesse Baggett's tomb.  The three tombs are in a row with others in the cemetery. This is a very old cemetery, out in the woods on private property and hard to find. Apparently this cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Conecuh County, AL. Granberry Baggett was buried about a year after Alabama became a state.

In the background of the picture are Mr. A. D. Clark, a historian who lives in Castleberry (Conecuh County), AL, and the mother of Sandy Smith. This is the way the cemetery actually looks at this time, grown up in weeds of differnt kinds. As you can see, there are several other tombs in the background. Sandy and her mother visited the cemetery recently and Sandy took the picture and shared it with us.
